Monitoring of adult river herring and American eel continues with a catch of about 20 adult alewife and American eel during last week's sampling. Tagged alewife have been detected at all antenna units and about 50 individuals were recorded leaving the watershed through the existing pipe to the ocean. It has also been a great week for talking with people about the Wreck Pond restoration project and the Littoral Society’s mission. On May 21st (World Fish Migration Day), the restoration crew was at the Spring Lake Irish Festival. Staff also conducted two education programs with Monmouth County’s Communications High School. While at Wreck Pond, the students tested water quality, seined for fishes, and measured water flow. They also identified plankton and benthic macroinvertebrates. Check back next week for another update and in the meantime have a wonderful Memorial Day.
