The Wreck Pond Fall fish samplers are thrilled to have caught not just one, but four juvenile river herring, presumed to be alewife, on September 28, 2017. All were small in size which could mean a late spawn occurred, or that these specimen were runt of the year. Regardless, all involved were very excited! Along with the herring, several other species were captured and released as well. Some exciting finds included: two sea horses, a mullet fish, pinfish, snapper bluefish, two large striped killi, and several kingfish. Early fall is usually a great time to find diversity simply because of the warm water conditions coupled with the amount of migrating species.
The American Littoral Society along with volunteers will continue fall fish sampling throughout the month of October. For more information on how to partake in these events, or simply attend, please contact Julie Schumacher, firstname.lastname@example.org
